43mm Variable ND for Lens Threads

The Nisi True Color Nd-Vario mounts on lenses with a 43mm front filter thread and provides an exposure reduction of 1 to 5 stops. Its 0.3 to 1.5 density range darkens the entire image, allowing wider apertures or slower shutter speeds than normally possible. The degree of density is controlled by rotating the front filter ring, with or without the included removable silver lever. Markings on the ring represent different stop values for repeatable adjustments.

Upgrade from Fixed ND Filters

This variable filter replaces the need to carry multiple fixed-density ND filters when shooting in changing light. The jump is worth it for photographers and videographers who need to adjust exposure length smoothly to the exact amount required for a given scene. Transition of density occurs smoothly, and combined adjustments of aperture and filter allow fine control over depth of field while retaining designated framing. Note that the manufacturer advises this filter will never achieve the homogeneity and neutrality of fixed-density ND filters.

Suits Hybrid Shooters Needing Speed

This filter suits photographers and videographers who prioritise rapid exposure control over absolute optical perfection, especially when using lenses with a 43mm thread. The two-tone anodised aluminium structure offers excellent grip, while the waterproof nano coating provides anti-reflection and IR blocking. Buyers who need maximum homogeneity and colour neutrality for focal lengths under 35mm, or for specific uses where fixed density NDs are possible, should look at fixed-density ND filters instead.

Questions about this item

Does the 43 mm thread size match my lens front filter threads?

Yes, this filter mounts directly onto any lens with a 43 mm front filter thread, no step-up rings required.

How do I install the removable side lever and avoid cross-threading the filter?

Screw the filter onto the lens by turning the knurled ring gently until it seats, then attach the silver lever to the front ring for finer density control.

Will the nano-coating wear off and need replacement, or is the optical glass durable enough?

The multilayer nano-coating on both sides of the optical glass is waterproof and anti-reflective; clean with a microfibre cloth and store in the supplied fabric case to preserve it.
