Alkaline chemistry with a manganese-dioxide cathode and zinc anode delivers a stable 1.55 volt output and very low self-discharge for long storage life. A U-shaped sealed steel shell with nickel-plated stainless steel outer layer prevents electrolyte leakage and resists short circuits. No active cooling or thermal management is involved in normal operation.
