Norton Blaze R980P Flap Disc 3in Grit 60

This Norton Abrasives flap disc is a coated abrasive tool designed for material removal and surface preparation. It suits metalworkers and fabricators who need a coarse-grade disc for grinding and blending tasks on angle grinders. The Type 27 profile provides a flat face suited for surface work.

Ceramic grain with performance coating

The ceramic abrasive material combined with a performance coating resists fraying and maintains cutting efficiency during use. A polyester backing with Y-weight construction supports the flaps for consistent material removal. The standard density rating balances stock removal rate with surface finish quality.

3in diameter with TR quick-change system

The 3-inch overall diameter fits compact angle grinders for access in tighter areas. A threaded-hole connector works with TR quick-change backing pads for fast disc swaps without tools. Maximum operating speed is rated at 30,000 RPM for high-speed applications. The plastic backing plate reduces weight while the orange colour identifies the Blaze series.

Questions about this item

When will the ceramic flaps on this 3 in Type 27 disc need replacing?

Replace the disc once the ceramic flaps wear down to the plastic backing or the fray‑resistant coating no longer cuts cleanly at 60 grit.

What limit appears first during continuous grinding at 30,000 RPM?

The 30,000 RPM maximum operating speed is the hard limit; exceeding it risks disc failure before heat or flap wear becomes an issue.

How much heat and vibration should I expect when running this flap disc all day?

The polyester Y‑weight backing and performance coating dissipate heat, keeping vibration low during extended use at rated speed.
