Adds two isolated RS485 channels to a Raspberry Pi via the 40-pin header using an SC16IS752 and SP3485 chipset at up to 921600 bps with onboard TVS, fuse and diode protection
This 2-channel isolated RS485 expansion HAT is designed for Raspberry Pi boards, using the SC16IS752+SP3485 chip combination to convert SPI signals to dual RS485 channels. It supports data rates up to 921600bps and includes onboard protection such as power isolation, ADI magnetic isolation, TVS diodes, and an auto-recovery fuse. The board targets developers and engineers building industrial automation or remote monitoring systems that require reliable serial communication.
The HAT mounts directly onto the standard Raspberry Pi 40PIN GPIO extension header, drawing power and SPI control signals from the host board. Onboard LEDs indicate power and transceiver status for quick diagnostics. A DIP switch configures automatic or manual transceiving modes, while broken-out SPI pins allow connection to alternative host controllers. No external power supply is required beyond what the Raspberry Pi provides through the header.
This HAT replaces single-channel RS485 modules or non-isolated USB-to-RS485 dongles by adding a second isolated channel and hardware-level surge protection. The jump is worth it when a project needs simultaneous dual-channel Modbus or sensor networks with lightning-proof and anti-static safeguards. It is not suited for builds that require more than two RS485 ports or need CAN, Ethernet, or wireless interfaces instead.

The SC16IS752+SP3485 dual chip combination converts SPI to RS485 with a data rate up to 921600bps across both channels.
Onboard TVS diodes suppress surge and transient spike voltages, while an auto-recovery fuse and protection diodes keep current and voltage stable.
A Raspberry Pi series board with a standard 40PIN GPIO header is required; the HAT communicates via the SPI interface.
