What this carabiner does

The Oak-Sports 3" carabiner is a compact steel clip rated for 880 lb static break strength. It suits everyday carry, pet leashes, camping gear and light DIY rigging where a small, strong attachment point is needed. The 15 mm gate opening accepts key rings, thin rope or webbing. It is not rated for climbing or life-safety loads.

Limits of the static rating

The 880 lb figure applies to a steady pull in line with the spine; shock loading, side pull or wear will reduce the real margin. The ASTM F1774-20 certification covers the test method, not a climbing standard. Do not use it for fall arrest, overhead lifting or any situation where dynamic forces can exceed the static limit.

Installing and common issues

The spring gate snaps shut automatically and has been cycled over a thousand times in testing. Push the gate inward to open; release to lock. Dirt or grit in the hinge can make the action stiff — rinse with water and dry. The black electrophoretic finish resists corrosion but will show scratches if dragged over rough surfaces.
