Olympus America Inc. V336020BW000 17mm f/1.8 II camera lens

17mm f/1.8 Micro Four Thirds lens

The Olympus America Inc. V336020BW000 is a prime wide-angle lens designed for Micro Four Thirds camera systems. It suits photographers who want a compact, bright lens for everyday shooting, street scenes, and environmental portraits. The metal construction and IPX1 splashproof rating support use in damp or dusty conditions. It is not for buyers who need telephoto reach or zoom versatility.

34mm equivalent field of view and f/1.8 aperture

The 17mm focal length provides a 34mm full-frame equivalent angle of view, wide enough for interiors and landscapes while remaining natural for documentary work. The maximum f/1.8 aperture gathers ample light for handheld low-light photography and allows shallow depth of field when desired. The seven-blade circular diaphragm produces smooth background rendition. The optical design includes two aspherical elements to control distortion and aberrations.

Upgrade from slower kit zooms

This lens replaces variable-aperture standard zooms that typically stop down to f/3.5 or smaller at wide angles. The constant f/1.8 aperture delivers over two stops more light-gathering capability, enabling faster shutter speeds and cleaner images in dim conditions. The metal barrel and weather sealing add durability that plastic-mount kit lenses lack. The jump is worth it for photographers who prioritise low-light performance and build quality over zoom convenience.
