Downcut carbide router bit cuts MDF and wood with a 1/8 inch diameter and 1/2 inch shank
The Onsrud 57-244 is a solid carbide router bit with a downcut spiral designed for MDF and wood. It suits CNC operators and woodworkers who need clean top-surface edges on sheet goods. Buyers who require an upcut spiral for chip evacuation in deep grooves or a different cutting diameter cannot use this tool.
The downcut geometry pushes chips downward during prolonged passes, which helps hold thin veneers flat against the spoil board. Carbide construction maintains edge integrity through repeated contact with abrasive composites such as MDF. The tool is not suited for materials that demand high chip clearance upward, such as deep aluminium slots.
Carbide dissipates heat efficiently during continuous routing, reducing the risk of burning on dense panels. The solid shank transmits vibration minimally when the collet is properly tightened, keeping operational noise at typical spindle levels. No external power supply or cooling system is required beyond the machine's standard spindle drive.

The solid carbide construction dissipates heat efficiently when cutting MDF and wood, reducing thermal buildup during continuous downcut spiral operation.
A 1/8 inch collet or compatible router chuck is needed to secure the 57-244's shank for proper concentricity and cutting performance.
The downcut geometry pushes chips downward, which can increase cutting forces; older machines with less rigid spindles may experience more vibration or deflection.
