Application & User
This Onsrud compression router bit is built for CNC operators and woodworkers who cut laminated wood and MDF. The solid carbide construction resists wear during high-volume routing. It is not suited for metalworking or for buyers who need a bit for non-laminated solid timber.
Critical Specification
The compression spiral geometry is the defining feature. It pushes chips upward on the top flutes and downward on the bottom flutes to prevent tear-out on both faces of the panel. Without this geometry, laminated surfaces will chip.
Thermals, Noise & Power
Carbide dissipates heat efficiently during continuous cuts, keeping the tool tip stable. The bit runs quietly in a properly balanced spindle. Power draw depends entirely on the machine motor and feed rate selected by the operator.

Questions about this item
What does the 1/2 in cutter diameter mean once the bit is in a real machine?
It sets the exact width of cut, so every pass removes a half-inch swath through laminated wood or MDF without needing multiple overlapping cuts.
What shank standard does this bit use and what does it cap in practice?
The bit fits a standard half-inch collet, limiting maximum tool length and vibration to what that collet can securely clamp.
What physical clearance does the 1 1/8 in cutting length need to fit or mount?
The router must provide at least 1 1/8 in of usable spindle travel and a collet deep enough to grip the shank while the flutes reach full depth.
