The registered design adds a buffer that stabilises the signal on heavily populated memory buses. It is not compatible with standard desktop computers or unbuffered memory configurations.

The 2Rx4 organisation supports dense population across multiple channels. Systems limited to DDR3 1600 speeds will not gain bandwidth beyond PC3-12800, and platforms requiring load-reduced or higher-voltage modules cannot use this part.

The registered ECC architecture is the decisive factor: only motherboards and chipsets that explicitly support registered DDR3 DIMMs will accept this module.
