Portable USB oscilloscope for circuit testing
The OWON VDS1022I is a 25 MHz dual-channel USB virtual oscilloscope powered entirely through a USB 2.0 connection. It captures signals at 100 MSa/s with a 5K record length and 8-bit vertical resolution. Isolation rated at 100:1 for 50 Hz and 40:1 for 10 MHz protects the host computer from transient shocks up to 400 V peak-to-peak.
Upgrade from basic logic probes or sound-card scopes
This unit replaces single-channel probes and software-only analysers when you need simultaneous XY and FFT display on the same screen. The jump is worth it when DC gain accuracy of ±3 % and vertical sensitivity down to 5 mV/div are required for design validation or manufacturing test. It is not for users who need bandwidth above 25 MHz or deeper memory for long captures.
Plug-and-play setup with included probe
Installation is driver-based plug-and-play via the supplied USB cable and CD; the probe offers 1X, 10X, 100X and 1000X attenuation settings. Common issues include forgetting to match the probe attenuation factor in software, which skews voltage readings, and exceeding the 400 V peak-to-peak input limit, which can damage the isolated front end.

Questions about this item
Does the VDS1022I need an external power supply or does it run from the USB 2.0 port?
It is powered over the USB 2.0 connection, so no separate power supply is required.
Which driver or software step is required before the VDS1022I appears as a measurement device on the PC?
Install the software from the included CD, then connect the USB cable; the device is recognised as a virtual oscilloscope once the driver loads.
The probe attenuation factor lists 1X, 10X, 100X and 1000X — which setting matches the supplied probe?
The included probe is a 10X type; set the software to 10X so the vertical sensitivity reads correctly.
