Home Theater Surge Protector

The PANAMAX PM8-AV provides eight widely spaced AC outlets, two CATV/Satellite connectors and two telco connectors for a complete home theater system. It operates at 120V input with an 1800 Watts output capacity and a 6 ft power cord. The unit delivers 1125 Joules of surge protection with a 140 Volts RMS clamping voltage.

Power Filtration and Disconnect Circuitry

An EMI/RFI noise filter rated at 45 dB across 100 KHz to 1MHz removes noise that causes loss of detail, pops, hisses, hums and visual artifacts. Protection modes cover L-N, L-G and N-G lines. The protect/disconnect circuitry completely cuts AC power to connected equipment during a catastrophic surge event such as lightning.

Pre-Installation Checks

Verify that your wall receptacle supplies 120V AC power and can support the 1800 Watts maximum load. Ensure the 6 ft cord reaches your intended location without strain. Confirm your components use standard three-prong plugs compatible with the widely spaced outlet layout and that coaxial and telephone lines route through the unit for full protection.

Questions about this item

Does the 1125-joule surge protector itself need replacement after it absorbs a large spike?

The protect-or-disconnect circuitry permanently cuts AC power to the outlets once a catastrophic surge exceeds the 1125-joule capacity, so the unit must be replaced to restore protection.

What load limit will trip first if I run all eight outlets continuously?

The 1800-watt output capacity at 120V is the hard ceiling; exceeding it will overload the strip before the 15-amp spike rating becomes relevant.

How much heat or fan noise does the PM8-AV produce during all-day operation?

The unit has no fan and generates only minimal warmth from the EMI/RFI filter and clamping components, so it runs silently at typical home-theater loads.
