Smart charger for AA and AAA batteries

The Panasonic BQ-390 charges one to four NiMH or NiCd cells at once. It accepts both AA and AAA sizes in any combination up to the slot limit. A flip-out plug and 100-240V input make it ready for worldwide use. The unit is ultra light and compact for easy travel.

Practical limits of the charging standard

The charger delivers 550mA to each of four AA cells or 430mA to two AAA cells. It cannot charge more than four AA or two AAA batteries simultaneously. Alkaline detection prevents charging of non-rechargeable cells. Reverse polarity protection and temperature sensors stop the process if a fault occurs.

The specification that decides fit

A single LED lights only when the last battery in the current session reaches full charge. There is no per-cell status indication during the cycle. Buyers who need individual charge feedback for each slot will not get it here. The smart system terminates current automatically to prevent overcharging.

Questions about this item

Should I buy the BQ-390 if I need to charge both AA and AAA batteries?

The BQ-390 charges up to four AA cells at 550 mA each or two AAA cells at 430 mA each, so one unit handles both sizes.

How quickly does the 550 mA output actually charge a standard AA NiMH cell?

At 550 mA the charger delivers a steady current; a typical AA NiMH cell will reach full charge in several hours depending on its capacity.

What does the 100-240 V input mean for using the charger abroad?

The flip-out plug accepts any mains supply from 100 V to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz, so the charger works worldwide without a voltage converter.
