Wide-Angle Prime for Micro Four Thirds

The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 12mm f/1.4 ASPH. is a wide-angle prime lens designed for Micro Four Thirds digital cameras. It provides a 24mm equivalent focal length on the 35mm format. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light situations and enables shallow depth of field control. Its optical design uses two aspherical elements alongside one ED and two UED elements to suppress aberrations.

Suited to Low-Light and Video Work

Photographers and videographers needing a fast, weather-resistant wide prime for environmental portraits, interiors or astrophotography will benefit from the quiet autofocus motor and manual AF/MF switch. The rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces smooth background rendition. Shooters requiring telephoto reach, zoom versatility or a wider maximum aperture than f/1.4 should look at other options.

24mm Equivalent Focal Length

The 12mm focal length yields a 24mm field of view on Micro Four Thirds sensors. This specific wide-angle perspective determines whether the lens fits your creative framing needs for landscapes, architecture or documentary scenes. Verify that this angle of view matches your intended composition before purchase.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the lens is focusing correctly after mounting it on my Micro Four Thirds camera?

Check that the autofocus motor moves smoothly and silently when half-pressing the shutter, and review test images at f/1.4 for sharpness from centre to edge.

What accessories come in the box and which ones must I purchase separately?

The box contains the lens with front and rear caps; a protective pouch, lens hood and any filters are sold separately.

Which version of this 12mm f/1.4 wide-angle prime should I choose for low-light video on a Micro Four Thirds body?

This single Leica DG Summilux model covers the 24mm equivalent field of view with a constant f/1.4 aperture, making it the only version needed for that use.
