What This Lens Covers

This Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Power OIS lens covers a 14-42mm focal range, equivalent to 28-84mm on a 35mm camera. It suits Micro Four Thirds shooters who want a versatile zoom for everyday scenes from wide landscapes to short telephoto portraits. The retractable barrel keeps the profile slim when the camera is stowed.

Size Weight and Stabilisation

The lens measures approximately 26.8mm long when retracted and weighs about 95g, making it easy to carry all day. Built-in Power O.I.S. optical stabilisation helps steady handheld shots at slower shutter speeds. The variable f/3.5-5.6 aperture provides smooth background separation at the wide end while maintaining a compact form factor.

Mount Filter Thread and Bundle Extras

A Micro Four Thirds mount attaches directly to compatible Panasonic and Olympus bodies without an adapter. The front filter thread accepts 37mm accessories such as the included Pro Optic filter kit. The bundle also supplies a Slinger lens case, cleaning kit, cloth, lens cap tether and storage bag so the kit is ready to use straight away.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 14-42mm lens to my Micro Four Thirds camera and what step is often missed?

Align the lens mount index with the camera body mark, rotate until it clicks, then extend the retractable barrel by pressing the zoom lever before shooting; the lens stays at 26.8 mm until powered on.

What ongoing care does the included 37mm filter kit and lens coating require?

Clean the Nano Surface Coating only with the supplied microfibre cloth and blower; wash the 37mm filters with mild soap if they get fingerprints, and store everything in the slinger case to protect the retractable mechanism.

At what focal length does the maximum aperture become f/5.6 and how does that affect low-light shooting?

The aperture narrows from f/3.5 at 14 mm to f/5.6 at 42 mm, so at the long end you need roughly four times more light or a higher ISO to maintain the same shutter speed.
