Wire gauge range
The Panduit BSH18-Q butt splice connector accepts wire sizes from 22 AWG up to 18 AWG. It is designed for crimp terminations on copper conductors with a tin-plated finish. The barrel inside diameter measures 0.17 in and the overall length is 1.45 in. The red polyolefin insulation identifies the 18 AWG maximum size.
Build integration
A brazed seam and heat-shrink insulation allow the splice to seal against moisture once crimped and heated. The connector is rated for 600 V and a maximum operating temperature of 257 Degrees F. It meets CSA C 22.2 No. 65 and UL 486C standards. Installation uses the compatible CT-310 tool, freeing the installer from soldering or separate heat-shrink tubing.
Sustained load behavior
Under continuous electrical load the copper body and tin plating maintain a low-resistance path at the rated voltage. The heat-shrink insulation remains stable up to the stated temperature limit without melting or cracking. The brazed seam prevents the barrel from opening during thermal cycling. The connector is not suited for wires larger than 18 AWG or for applications exceeding 600 V.

Questions about this item
Will the 600 V rating hold up when the splice runs at 257 °F all day?
The connector is rated for 600 V and a maximum operating temperature of 257 °F, so it maintains its voltage rating at that temperature.
How hot does the barrel get and does it need extra cooling when crimped continuously?
The copper barrel with tin plating dissipates heat from the crimped joint; no active cooling is required for normal sustained use.
Which crimp tool must I already have to install the BSH18-Q properly?
The manufacturer specifies the CT-310 installation tool for this butt splice connector.
