18-inch subwoofer for installed sound
The Peavey 18" Low Rider subwoofer is an 8-ohm driver rated at 800 watts continuous, 1600 watts program and 3200 watts peak. It uses a Kevlar-impregnated cellulose cone and a 4.0-inch voice coil with polyimide-coated copper ribbon wire on a polyimide-impregnated fiberglass former with a Nomex stiffener. Usable frequency range spans 25 Hz to 1 kHz at 93.7 dB sensitivity.
Upgrade from lighter cones and smaller coils
The 100 mm voice coil and Kevlar-reinforced cone replace thinner cellulose or paper cones and smaller-diameter coils that reach thermal limits sooner. The jump is worth it when a system needs higher continuous output down to 25 Hz without compression, especially in vented enclosures tuned near the 28.9 Hz free-air resonance.
Suits fixed installs needing deep bass headroom
This driver suits installers building vented or horn-loaded subs for clubs, houses of worship or touring backline where 800 watts continuous and 9.6 mm Xmax are required. Builders needing a lighter driver for portable cabinets or a higher-sensitivity model for mid-bass duties should look at something else.

Questions about this item
What cabinet depth does the 18" Low Rider subwoofer require for mounting?
The packed depth is 9.5 inches (24.13 cm); allow at least that much clear space behind the baffle plus the driver's own frame depth.
Which wiring step is most often missed when installing the 8-ohm voice coil?
Confirm the coil reads 6.21 ohms DC before tightening the terminals; a cold-joint solderless lead will show open circuit.
When should the Kevlar-impregnated cone surround be inspected or replaced?
Check the surround after every 800 W continuous session; replace it once Xmax travel exceeds 9.6 mm or audible distortion appears.
