Watertight Camera Case 1520

The Pelican 1520 is a watertight, crushproof and dustproof hard case built to protect camera equipment during transport. It uses an Ultra High Impact structural copolymer shell with a 6.4 mm neoprene O-ring seal and automatic pressure equalization valve. Stainless steel hardware and padlock protectors add security. A personalizable nameplate is included.

Limits of the O-ring Seal and Valve

The O-ring and automatic purge valve maintain a watertight seal after atmospheric pressure changes, but the case is not rated for continuous submersion under load. It floats in salt water with an 18.1 kg load, yet buoyancy decreases if that weight is exceeded. Dustproof and chemical resistance apply only when latches are fully secured. The foam insert absorbs shock but does not prevent water entry if the seal is compromised.

Deciding Factor: 40 lbs Buoyancy Rating

The single specification that decides suitability is the 40 lbs (18.1 kg) salt-water buoyancy limit. If your packed kit exceeds this weight, the case will not float as designed. Buyers who need to transport heavier loads without flotation assurance should consider a different solution.
