  • Quick-Shift Focus System for instant manual override

Lens purpose and audience

The Pentax-D FA 90mm f/2.8 ED AW SR is a medium-telephoto lens built for the Pentax 645 medium-format system. It suits photographers who need a 90mm focal length with a fast f/2.8 aperture for portraits, landscapes and detailed close-ups.

Upgrade context

This lens replaces slower or optically simpler medium-format primes when shallow depth of field and low-light capability matter. The jump is worth it if you require the 9-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh and the in-lens Shake Reduction for steadier handheld work.

Capacity and limits

The 11-element, 9-group optical design delivers high resolution across the 645 frame, and the 71mm full-frame equivalent covers classic portrait perspectives comfortably. It runs out when a wider angle of view or a longer reach beyond 90mm is needed for the subject.

Questions about this item

Does the Pentax 22210 lens mount directly on a 645-mount medium format camera?

Yes, it is designed specifically for Pentax 645-mount cameras and fits the bayonet without an adapter.

How do I switch from autofocus to manual focus on this lens?

Use the Quick-Shift Focus System by turning the focus ring while the camera is in autofocus mode; the step people miss is leaving the body set to AF.

When should I clean the front element of the 90mm f/2.8 lens?

Clean only when visible dust or smudges affect images; use a blower first, then a microfibre cloth with lens fluid if needed.
