Pentax 645 35mm f/3.5 Lens

The Pentax SMCP-FA 645 35mm f/3.5 AL IF is a super wide-angle prime lens designed for the Pentax 645 medium-format system. It features an aperture range of f/3.5 to f/32 and an optical construction of 10 elements in 7 groups. Aspherical elements reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for high image quality.

Wide-Angle Medium Format Shooters

Photographers needing a 35mm perspective on a 645 camera for landscapes or interiors will find the focal length and f/3.5 aperture suitable for available-light work. The lens uses internal focusing driven by a high-quality motor for quiet operation. Buyers requiring zoom versatility or autofocus on modern mirrorless mounts should look elsewhere.

Pentax 645 Mount Compatibility

This lens mounts natively only on Pentax 645 film or digital bodies; it will not fit 35mm full-frame, APS-C, or other medium-format systems without an adapter. The minimum focus distance is 11.8 inches, allowing close-up detail work. Confirm your camera uses the 645 bayonet before purchasing.

Questions about this item

How do I mount this 645 lens and what step is often missed?

Mount it on a Pentax 645-mount body; the step often missed is setting the aperture ring to the 'A' position so the camera can control the f/3.5–f/32 range electronically.

What maintenance or replacement will this 35mm f/3.5 lens need over time?

The internal-focus mechanism and SMC coatings are sealed; only routine front-element cleaning and occasional hood-thread lubrication are needed — no user-serviceable parts inside.

What limit appears first during extended handheld shooting with this 645 wide-angle?

The fixed f/3.5 maximum aperture becomes the limiting factor in low light, forcing higher ISO or slower shutter speeds before any thermal or focus-motor constraint appears.
