Perle IOLAN SCG50 R Console Server 48-port

The Perle IOLAN SCG50 R Console Server 04033074 is a network switch designed for out-of-band management. It provides forty-eight RS-232 serial ports and two USB ports alongside a 10/100/1000 Ethernet uplink. The unit includes mounting hardware for rack installation.

Suits administrators managing dense serial

This console server fits data centres and industrial sites that need secure, centralised access to forty-eight serial devices such as routers, switches or servers. It is not for buyers who require fibre uplinks, Power over Ethernet, or layer-two switching features beyond the single Gigabit management port.

Deciding specification: forty-eight RS-232 ports

The forty-eight RS-232 ports define the scale of serial equipment you can manage from one appliance. If your environment has fewer serial endpoints, a smaller console server reduces cost and rack space. If you need more than forty-eight simultaneous serial sessions, you must stack multiple units.

Questions about this item

What type of serial cable is needed for the 48 RS-232 ports?

Each port uses a standard RS-232 serial cable; the specific connector type depends on the device being connected.

Can the single 10/100/1000 Ethernet uplink connect to an older 10 Mbps network segment?

Yes, the Ethernet port auto-negotiates down to 10 Mbps half or full duplex for legacy infrastructure.

How do I confirm the console server is operating correctly after installation?

The front-panel LEDs show power, Ethernet link and activity, plus per-port serial status; the web or CLI interface reports each of the 48 ports as up when cables are connected.
