The Perle SMI-110-S1ST20U is a single-fibre SFP transceiver that converts a 10/100Base-T copper port to a 100Base-BX-U optical interface. It suits network engineers extending Fast Ethernet over one strand of single-mode fibre. The module includes a 100-240v AC regulated DC adapter for standalone power.

Distance limit of the 100Base-BX-U standard

100Base-BX-U defines a maximum reach of 20 kilometres over single-mode fibre when paired with a matching BX-D module. The 100 Mbit/s line rate is fixed; the transceiver will not negotiate 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s speeds. Copper-side auto-negotiation covers 10 and 100 Mbit/s half or full duplex only.

Replaces media converters for point-to-point fibre

This SFP replaces external media converters when a switch or router has an open SFP slot, saving rack space and a separate power brick.
