Motion-sensor automation for Hue lights

The Philips Hue 570977 motion sensor automates Philips Hue smart lights by detecting movement and ambient light levels. It turns lights on when you enter a room and off when you leave, while the integrated daylight sensor prevents activation during bright conditions. The device requires a Hue Bridge to operate and connects through the Hue ecosystem for app-based control.

Suits homes with a Hue Bridge.

This sensor suits households that already own or plan to buy a Philips Hue Bridge and want automated lighting in hallways, bathrooms or kitchens. It is not for buyers who want a motion sensor that works directly with Wi-Fi, Thread or other smart-home platforms without the Bridge. Renters or installers who cannot mount devices may prefer the screw-free magnetic mount option.

Battery-powered wireless installation

The sensor runs on two included AAA batteries and mounts wirelessly using the supplied magnetic bracket or a single screw. Dimensions are 2.16" x 2.16" x .78" and weight is 6.40 oz, allowing placement on walls, ceilings or shelves without wiring. Battery power means no electrical work is required, but periodic replacement will be necessary.

Questions about this item

How does the sensor change the lights once it detects movement in a real room?

It triggers your Hue smart lights to turn on automatically when you enter and off when you leave, while the built-in light sensor prevents activation if enough daylight is already present.

What connection does the sensor rely on and what does that limit?

It requires a Hue Bridge for all automations and remote control, so it cannot operate directly over Wi-Fi or Thread without that hub in place.

What mounting options come in the box for fitting the unit?

A magnetic mount for tool-free placement and screws for a fixed wall installation are both included.
