Philips S98 96% Gaming Keyboard

The Philips S98 is a 96% layout gaming keyboard with 98 keys and a built-in smart display. It uses tactile mechanical switches and double-shot PBT keycaps for durable, clear legends. The keyboard supports wired USB-C, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth connectivity. A multi-function knob provides quick control over volume, lighting, and connection mode.

Compatibility and Setup Check

Verify that your system has an available USB port for the wired connection or the 2.4 GHz receiver. The smart display shows connection mode, battery status, and WIN/MAC layout indication. Software configuration is handled through a web-based driver that operates in wired or 2.4 GHz mode. Ensure your operating system supports standard HID keyboard input for full functionality.

Build Quality and Daily Use

A top-mount structure combined with IXPE switch dampener, two layers of sound-absorbing foam, and a silicone pad reduces noise by 40% and hollow sound by 80%. Hot-swappable PCB accepts both 3-pin and 5-pin switches without soldering for easy customisation. Pre-lubed stabilisers and double-shot PBT keycaps deliver a creamy or thocky typing feel with long-lasting surface quality.

Questions about this item

Does the S98 include a 2.4 GHz dongle and USB-C cable, or must they be purchased separately?

The S98 ships with a 2.4 GHz dongle and USB-C cable for wired use, plus a keycap puller and switch puller; no extra purchase is needed for those items.

Which switch option should I choose for the creamy sound profile shown in the sound test?

The pre-lubed RK tactile switches paired with IXPE and dual foam layers deliver the creamy or thocky sound demonstrated; hot-swap sockets let you swap to any 3- or 5-pin switch later.

How does the 96% layout with 98 keys and 12 function keys behave in daily workflow?

The compact 96% layout keeps the full function row and navigation cluster, so shortcuts and media controls stay accessible without a separate numpad.
