Raspberry Pi 5 NVMe Base

The Pimoroni NVMe Base is a PCIe extension board that adds an M.2 slot to a Raspberry Pi 5. It enables the use of NVMe solid-state storage for faster boot and application performance. The accessory carries model number PIM699 and is supplied new.

Casual computing projects needing faster storage

This board suits hobbyists and developers who want quicker disk access on a Raspberry Pi 5 for general tasks. It is not intended for users who require enterprise-grade endurance or server-class I/O throughput.

NVMe over PCIe interface

The single specification that determines compatibility is the NVMe protocol running over the Raspberry Pi 5 PCIe lane. Only drives that support this interface will function with the extension board.

Questions about this item

How fast will an NVMe drive run on the PIM699 board?

The board extends the Raspberry Pi 5 PCIe connection to an M.2 slot so the drive operates at the host's native PCIe speed.

Which interface standard does the PIM699 use to connect the drive?

It uses the Raspberry Pi 5 PCIe FPC link to provide an M.2 M-key socket for NVMe drives.

What mounting holes or standoffs does the PIM699 need to sit on a Raspberry Pi 5?

The HAT aligns with the Pi 5's standard 40-pin header and mounting holes for a secure fit.
