8-inch IPS HDMI display kit

The Pimoroni PIM372 kit supplies an 8-inch IPS panel with a 1024x768 resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate. A 170-degree viewing angle keeps the image readable from the side. The 350 cd/m² brightness and 500:1 contrast ratio suit indoor maker projects such as arcade cabinets or portable Raspberry Pi monitors.

Thermals and power in use

The thin 3 mm board produces no audible fan noise because it relies on passive cooling. Power draw stays low enough for a typical Raspberry Pi USB supply. The 12.5 ms average response time prevents visible ghosting during normal desktop interaction.

Keypad and ribbon cable included

A tactile keypad and matching ribbon cable arrive in the box, letting you add menu navigation or game controls without extra wiring. The 165 x 124 mm active area fits the 174 x 136 mm outer frame, so the assembly mounts cleanly in tight enclosures.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the keypad ribbon cable to the driver board without damaging the pins?

Align the ribbon cable with the connector on the Pimoroni driver board, ensure the contacts face the correct direction, and press firmly until seated; the cable is included in the kit.

Will the IPS panel's brightness or contrast degrade over time with continuous use?

The 350 cd/m² brightness and 500:1 contrast ratio are rated specifications; IPS technology generally maintains stable output, but long-term drift is not quantified in the product data.

At what point does the 60 Hz refresh rate become a bottleneck for fast-moving visuals?

With a 12.5 ms average response time and 60 Hz refresh, motion blur may appear during rapid on-screen movement, which is the first limit encountered under sustained high-speed content.
