24-port managed Gigabit switch

The PLANET GS-4210-24T2S is a Layer 2 managed Gigabit Ethernet switch with 24 copper RJ45 ports and two SFP slots for fibre uplinks. It supports IEEE 802.3 standards including 10/100/1000BASE-T and 100/1000BASE-X. The unit operates fanless within a 0 to 50 degree Celsius range and draws a maximum of 14 watts from a 100 to 240V AC supply. It fits a standard 1U rack space measuring 1.77 by 17.52 by 8.15 inches.

Suited for SMB networks needing VLAN and trunking

This switch serves small and medium businesses that require 802.1Q VLANs, Q-in-Q, LACP link aggregation, IGMP and MLD snooping, plus port security such as 802.1X, RADIUS, TACACS+, IP-MAC binding and DHCP snooping. It is not for buyers who need Layer 3 routing, PoE power on copper ports, or more than two fibre uplinks. Environments above 50 degrees Celsius or requiring redundant power inputs should look elsewhere.

Two SFP slots decide fibre reach

The two 100/1000BASE-X SFP interfaces are the only fibre connectivity on the switch. They determine whether you can uplink to a core switch, extend to another building, or connect a single fibre link at all. Choose compatible SFP transceivers for the required distance and wavelength; the copper ports remain fixed at 24 Gigabit RJ45 connections.

Questions about this item

Will the 24 Gigabit RJ45 ports negotiate down to 10 Mbps for legacy 10BASE-T equipment?

Yes, the switch supports IEEE 802.3 10BASE-T, 802.3u 100BASE-TX and 802.3ab 1000BASE-T so each port auto-negotiates to 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps.

How can I verify the SFP links are passing traffic at line rate after installation?

Enable port mirroring to copy SFP traffic to a monitoring port, then check the web interface counters for 1000BASE-X throughput and zero CRC errors.

Does the package include SFP transceivers or must they be purchased separately?

The box contains the switch, an AC power cord, mounting brackets and a console cable; the two 100/1000BASE-X SFP slots accept optional mini-GBIC modules sold separately.
