Adds a DB9 RS-232 serial port via USB with programmable baud rates from 75 to 128000 bits per second
The Plugable PL2303-DB9 adds a DB9 RS-232 serial port to any computer with a USB-A socket. It targets engineers, technicians and hobbyists who must talk to legacy industrial, networking or scientific equipment that still uses a nine-pin DTE male connector.
Verify that the host machine runs Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7 or Vista, macOS or a current Linux kernel; ARM-based Windows devices such as Surface are explicitly unsupported. The target device must present a standard RS-232 DB9 interface and you may need a null-modem or straight-through cable depending on its wiring.
The adapter draws all power from the USB bus so no external supply is required. Its Prolific PL2303GT chipset creates a virtual COM port automatically, freeing a PCIe slot that a legacy serial card would otherwise occupy while supporting programmable baud rates from 75 to 128000 bits per second.

The adapter provides a DB9 male connector with retention screws; a NULL modem or straight-through serial cable must be purchased separately for most device connections.
Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and Vista are supported via Windows Update or downloaded drivers; macOS and Linux use embedded serial drivers, while ARM-based Windows is not compatible.
The programmable baud rate spans from 75 bits per second up to 128000 bits per second, allowing use with a wide variety of legacy RS-232 equipment.
