PocketWizard AC3 ZoneController for Canon
The PocketWizard AC3 ZoneController attaches to a Canon camera and lets you manage three independent flash groups from the shooting position. It operates in both E-TTL and manual modes, giving photographers direct control over lighting ratios without leaving the camera. The ergonomic dial layout is built for quick adjustments during portrait, event or commercial sessions.
Thermals noise and power draw
The unit draws negligible power from the camera body and produces no audible noise or measurable heat during normal use. Its passive design means there are no fans or active cooling components to fail. Battery life on the host camera is unaffected by the controller itself.
Upgrade path and when it matters
This controller replaces the need to walk back and forth to each flash or rely on camera-menu diving for group power changes. The jump is worth it when you regularly light with two or more off-camera flashes and need 1/3-stop precision across a six-stop range. It does not add radio triggering on its own, so a compatible PocketWizard transceiver is still required for wireless operation.

Questions about this item
How do I attach the AC3 ZoneController to my Canon camera and what step do people miss?
Slide the unit onto the camera hot shoe and tighten the locking wheel until it clicks; the step often missed is confirming the wheel is fully seated so the ControlTL contacts align.
What maintenance or replacement will the AC3 need over time?
The three adjustment dials and hot-shoe locking wheel are the only moving parts; keep them free of grit and replace the unit if the detents wear and 1/3-stop clicks become unreliable.
What limit appears first when I use the AC3 continuously during a long shoot?
The six-stop, 1/3-increment power range across three zones is the control limit; beyond that you must reposition lights or change flash output manually.
