Pomona 6041A Alligator Clips for DMM
This set provides two fully insulated clips rated for 20 A and 1000 V in handheld or hands-free use. The nickel-plated steel tips open to 0.8 in and each clip terminates in a 4 mm safety jack. They carry a CAT III 1000 V instrument safety rating for measurement work.
Check your test leads accept 4 mm safety jacks
The clips mate with Pomona models 5907A and 5909A flexible leads. Verify that your existing patch cords or DMM plugs use the same 4 mm jack style. The 3-5/8 in overall length suits bench use but may not reach distant points in large enclosures.
Thermals noise and power draw in normal use
Passive metal clips generate no noise and draw no power themselves. Heat rise depends entirely on the current carried through the 20 A rating and the resistance of the connected leads. The fully insulated jaws reduce the risk of accidental shorts during extended measurement sessions.

Questions about this item
Does the 6041A set include the test leads or only the two alligator clips?
The set supplies two fully insulated clips in black and red, each with a 4 mm safety jack. Test leads such as the 5907A or 5909A flexible leads are not included and must be purchased separately.
When should I choose the black clip versus the red clip?
Both clips are rated 20 A and 1000 V with a 0.8 in opening. The colours follow standard convention: red for positive or signal, black for negative or ground.
What does the CAT III 1000 V rating mean when the clips are on a live circuit?
It certifies the clips for measurement on fixed installations up to 1000 V AC or DC, so they are safe for panel work and distribution wiring within that category.
