Chain Coupling Sprocket 16 Teeth 5/8 in Bore
This Power Drive C4016X5/8 chain coupling sprocket is built for power-transmission systems using ANSI 40 roller chain. It fits a 5/8 inch round keyed shaft and transmits 4.14 hp at 100 rpm or 16.9 hp at 4,000 rpm. The hub measures 1 3/8 inch in diameter with a 3/16 inch keyway width and 3/32 inch keyway depth.
Replaces Worn Sprocket on Chain 40 Drives
Install this sprocket when the existing 16-tooth unit shows tooth wear, excessive backlash or corrosion that degrades timing. The jump is worth it if parallel misalignment exceeds 0.005 inch or angular misalignment passes 1 degree, as the new part restores rated horsepower and 0.06 inch axial float. It is not for drives requiring a different tooth count or chain pitch.
Slip-On Mount with Keyway Alignment
Slide the bore onto the shaft, seat the key in the 3/16 inch keyway and secure with a set screw or retaining ring. The 3 inch outside diameter clears standard AL40 covers without modification. Common issues include forgetting the key, exceeding the 1 degree angular limit during alignment or forcing a shaft that is undersized for the 5/8 inch bore.

Questions about this item
What shaft size and keyway dimensions does the 5/8 in bore with round keyed design require?
The sprocket fits a 5/8 in diameter shaft and uses a keyway 3/16 in wide by 3/32 in deep.
How do I align the sprocket during installation, and what tolerance is commonly overlooked?
Keep angular misalignment within 1 degree and parallel offset within 0.005 in; the parallel limit is the step most often missed.
When should I replace the chain or inspect the sprocket teeth on this size 40 coupling?
Inspect teeth for hooking or wear at each scheduled downtime; replace the size 40 chain once elongation reaches the manufacturer's wear limit.
