18-bay rackmount NAS with Xeon E-2336

The TS-h1887XU-RP-E2336-32G-US is a 2U rackmount NAS built around an Intel Xeon E-2336 processor with six cores and twelve threads running at 2.9 GHz up to 4.8 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 ECC memory expandable to 128 GB across four slots. The eighteen drive bays accept a mix of 3.5-inch SATA hard drives and 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drives for hybrid storage pools.

Installation notes and common issues

The unit weighs 13 kg net and measures 88.6 × 432 × 511.2 mm, so it requires a sturdy rack shelf and two people to mount safely. Dual redundant 550 W power supplies connect via standard IEC cords; ensure both circuits are live before powering on. Drive carriers are tool-less for 3.5-inch drives but 2.5-inch SSDs need the supplied screws, which are easily misplaced during first build.

Capacity headroom and limits

Maximum raw capacity reaches 396 TB when all eighteen bays are populated with the largest supported drives. The four memory slots allow growth from the included 32 GB to 128 GB of DDR4 ECC for larger ZFS deduplication tables or heavier virtualisation workloads. Operating temperature range is 0 to 40 °C; sustained loads above that threshold will trigger thermal throttling or shutdown.

How it compares

Questions about this item

How do I verify the NAS is operating correctly after initial setup?

Check the system status in the QuTS hero or QTS dashboard for CPU temperature within 0 to 40 °C, power draw near 148.94 W typical, and all 18 drive bays detected.

What ships with the unit and which drives must I purchase separately?

The rackmount chassis includes dual 550 W power supplies, 32 GB DDR4 ECC memory, and rails; no 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA drives are included.

Should I choose the 32 GB configuration or plan to expand to 128 GB?

The installed 32 GB DDR4 ECC uses one of four slots; add three more modules up to 128 GB total if running many virtual machines or heavy deduplication workloads.
