USB floppy drive for legacy disks

This external USB 3.5 inch floppy drive reads and writes 1.44 MB diskettes on computers that lack an internal drive. It suits home users, archivists and hobbyists who need to recover files from old media such as photos, documents or research data. The drive draws power from the USB port and works with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000.

Driver-free setup with pop-up eject

Plug the USB Type-A connector into any free port and the drive appears as drive A in File Explorer without extra software or a separate power supply. A pop-up button ejects the diskette for quick changes. The only common issue is physical media degradation; disks stored for decades may have unreadable sectors that no drive can fix.

USB 2.0 speed limits transfer rate

The drive uses a USB 2.0 interface, so maximum throughput is capped at the standard's bulk-endpoint bandwidth. Large batches of small files will copy noticeably slower than on modern solid-state media. The 1.44 MB capacity per diskette also means multi-disk archives require repeated swaps.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the RAAYOO RYD001-BK is reading and writing correctly after connecting it?

After plugging the USB connector into the computer, open Windows File Explorer and look for the drive A icon under Devices and Drives; right-click it, select Open, then cut, paste or copy files on the diskette to verify read and write operation.

What does the 10 pack contain and is anything else required to use the drive?

The package includes ten 3.5 inch 1.44 MB floppy diskettes; the USB floppy drive itself connects via USB Type-A and needs no extra driver, software or external power supply.

Which version of the drive should I choose for a PC running Windows 8.1?

The RYD001-BK model is compatible with Windows 8.1 as well as Windows 11, 10, 7, Vista, XP and 2000, so this single version covers that operating system.
