Vertical stand for 15-inch laptops

The Rain Design SM3-300 holds a laptop upright on a desk, freeing horizontal space for monitors or paperwork. Its gravity-operated clamp adjusts automatically when a device is placed inside or lifted out. The aluminium frame weighs .41 kilograms and measures 6.38 by 4.33 by 3.46 inches. Silicone pads grip the chassis without scratching the finish.

Replaces flat docks or stacked books

A horizontal dock occupies the same footprint as the laptop itself; this stand reduces that footprint to the depth of the base. The vertical orientation also keeps cooling vents unobstructed, which helps when the machine runs demanding workloads while driving external displays. The jump is worthwhile whenever desk depth is limited or when a cleaner cable run to rear ports is desired.

Check laptop thickness and weight distribution

The clamp accepts devices up to 15 inches wide and thicknesses covered by the 13 to 16 inch MacBook Pro and Air range listed in the specifications. Heavier mobile workstations may shift the centre of gravity; verify that the unit remains stable on your surface before relying on it daily. No tools are required for adjustment.

Questions about this item

How much desk depth and width does the 6.38 by 4.33 inch base of this stand occupy?

The stand measures 6.38 inches deep by 4.33 inches wide, so it fits on most desks without crowding your monitor or keyboard.

How does the gravity auto-lock mechanism engage when I place a 15 inch MacBook Pro into the stand?

Slide the laptop down; its weight expands the arms until the silicone pads grip the sides securely, with no screws or levers to adjust.

Will the silicone pads on the SM3-300 wear out or need replacement after daily docking and undocking?

The high-quality silicone pads are designed for repeated use; if they ever lose grip, they can be peeled off and replaced with standard adhesive-backed pads.
