Portable chain vise for 1/8 to 2-1/2 in pipe

The Ridgid 425 is a portable chain vise designed for metal pipe from 0.13 in up to 2.5 in diameter. It includes folding legs and a carrying handle for transport to job sites. A self-locking latch secures the pipe during threading, cutting or inspection work. The unit suits plumbers and maintenance crews who need a movable holding solution.

Capacity from 0.13 in to 2.5 in

The vise accommodates pipe sizes ranging from 0.13 in through 2.5 in, covering common small-bore and medium-bore metal pipe. Folding legs open to a maximum spread of 51 1/2 in, giving a stable base on uneven surfaces. Working height adjusts between 36 in and 37 in. Larger diameter or heavier wall pipe beyond 2.5 in exceeds the rated capacity.

Folding legs and self-locking latch for daily setup

Folding legs collapse for storage and deploy quickly on site, while the carrying handle eases relocation between tasks. The self-locking latch engages automatically when the chain is tensioned, reducing the chance of pipe slip during operation. Legs and latch are built for repeated field use, though the chain and yoke assembly will require periodic inspection for wear.

Questions about this item

Will the 425 chain vise hold the 2.5 in pipe I already have in the shop?

Yes, the vise accepts pipe from .13 in up to 2.5 in diameter, so your existing pipe falls within the range.

How can I confirm the 425 is set up correctly before I start threading?

Check that the folding legs lock open at the 51 1/2 in spread, the height sits between 36 in and 37 in, and the self-locking latch engages the chain tightly on the pipe.

Does the 425 come with the folding legs and carrying handle, or do I need to order them separately?

The unit includes the folding legs and a built-in carrying handle; no extra parts are required for basic portable use.
