Pipe shears for plastic piping

The Rothenberger 52040 pipe shears are designed for cutting PEX, polybutylene, polyethylene, polypropylene and PVDF tubing. They suit plumbers and installers who need accurate, right-angled cuts on plastic pipework without powered equipment.

Fits a tool bag and frees up power outlets

At 24 cm long the shear sits easily in a tool bag or on a belt loop, so no mains supply or batteries are required on site. The contoured steel handles give a secure grip while the automatic opening returns the blades after each cut, reducing repetitive strain.

Cuts up to 1-1/4 in and locks for storage

Maximum cutting capacity is 1-1/4 in, handling common plastic pipe sizes with a stainless-steel blade that holds its edge. The shear arms lock closed for safe transport, though the tool is not intended for metal, armoured or large-diameter pipe.

Questions about this item

How thick a pipe can the 52040 shear cut before the blade reaches its limit?

The maximum cutting capacity is 1 1/4 in, so the tool stops cleanly at that diameter.

Does the 52040 shear generate noticeable heat or noise during continuous cutting?

As a manual hand tool it produces no motor heat and only the quiet sound of the blades closing.

What pipe material must be on hand for the 52040 shear to work as intended?

It is designed for PEX, polybutylene, polyethylene, polypropylene and PVDF piping.
