Two-Piece Aluminium Shaft Collar
The Ruland SP-20-A is a 2-piece clamp collar machined from 2024 aluminium alloy for 1-1/4 in round shafts. Its split design allows installation or repositioning without removing bearings, gears or other mounted components from the shaft.
Clamping Behaviour Under Load
The alloy steel screws distribute clamping force evenly around the 2 1/16 in outside diameter, maintaining grip during sustained vibration or torque. Aluminium construction reduces rotating mass compared with steel collars while the 1/2 in width provides adequate contact area for moderate axial loads.
Installation And Common Issues
The two halves separate for quick fitting around existing assemblies, then secure with standard hex keys. Over-tightening the alloy steel screws can strip the aluminium threads, so apply only the recommended torque. The 2.3 in clearance diameter may interfere with adjacent parts in compact housings, and the material is not suited for high-temperature or highly corrosive environments.

Questions about this item
Does the 2024-grade aluminum collar generate heat or noise during continuous rotation?
The aluminum collar itself produces no heat or noise; any temperature rise or sound comes from the shaft and bearing interface, not the clamp.
What shaft diameter must I already have for the 1-1/4 in bore to clamp correctly?
You need a round shaft measuring exactly 1-1/4 in diameter; the two-piece clamp tightens directly on that size without adapters.
Will the 2.3 in clearance diameter foul adjacent components on an older machine?
The 2.3 in clearance envelope is fixed; verify that neighbouring parts on your existing assembly leave at least that much radial space.
