Universal laptop docking station with stand

The Sabrent DS-RICA adds HDMI, DVI, Gigabit Ethernet, six USB ports and audio jacks to a Windows or Mac notebook through a single USB 3.0 link. A built-in stand holds a tablet or slim laptop upright while the dock drives two external displays at 1080p. Two dedicated 2.4 A charging ports power phones or tablets without using the data ports.

USB 3.0 bandwidth and video limits

The host connection tops out at 5 Gbps, so combined display, network and storage traffic shares that ceiling. HDMI and DVI can run simultaneously but only at 1080p resolution. Gigabit Ethernet negotiates at 10/100/1000 Mbps, yet real throughput cannot exceed the USB 3.0 pipe. USB 2.0 peripherals are limited to 480 Mbps and USB 1.1 devices to 12 Mbps.

Driver installation and macOS caveat

Windows 7, 8 and 10 require the supplied DisplayLink driver from the CD or a download before any video output appears. On macOS 10.13.4 the DisplayLink 4.3 beta 3 driver restricts the dock to a single extended desktop; Ethernet and audio continue working. Version 10.13.3 is unaffected. The package includes a DVI-to-VGA adapter, 12 V power brick and USB 3.0 cable for immediate setup.
