Target Drive Type

This enclosure accepts only NVMe M-key M.2 SSDs in the 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors. It does not support M.2 SATA-based drives, so buyers with NGFF modules must choose a different adapter.

Deciding Specification

The external interface is USB 3.1 Gen2 with a 10Gbps signalling rate. That single figure determines whether the enclosure can saturate your NVMe SSD or whether the link becomes the bottleneck.

Sustained Behaviour

An aluminum shell with venting acts as a heatsink to move heat away from the drive during long transfers. The design aims to keep performance stable rather than throttling after a short burst.

Questions about this item

What real-world read and write speeds can I expect when the enclosure is connected to a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port?

The enclosure pushes USB 3.1 Gen 2 to its limit, delivering sequential read and write speeds between 850 and 1020 MB/s with most NVMe SSDs.

Which USB standard does the Type-C port use and what is its maximum throughput?

The port uses USB 3.1 Gen 2, providing up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth, and is backward compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.0.

What M.2 SSD lengths and keying does the enclosure accept?

It supports M-key NVMe drives in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors; SATA-based M.2 SSDs are not supported.
