USB Optical Fingerprint Reader

The DigitalPersona 4500 is a USB peripheral designed for individual desktop users and shared environments. It uses optical scanning technology to capture fingerprint images with a large capture area. A silicone coating helps read dry, moist, or rough fingerprints accurately. The compact metal casing resists unintentional movement on the desk.

USB 2.0 Interface Limits

The reader connects via a USB 2.0 interface and remains compatible with USB 1.0 and 1.1 ports. Bandwidth is limited to the USB 2.0 specification, which may affect transfer speed compared to newer standards. The device draws power directly from the USB port, requiring no external supply. Cable length and hub quality can influence reliable operation.

512 dpi Optical Resolution

The scanner captures 8-bit grayscale images at a pixel resolution of 512 dpi. This resolution determines the level of detail available for fingerprint matching algorithms. Lower resolution may limit accuracy for certain biometric applications or regulatory requirements. Buyers needing higher image fidelity should verify this specification meets their software requirements.
