Rugged 8.0-inch Android 7.1 tablet

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 is a new rugged tablet built for field workers who need a durable 8.0-inch device running Android 7.1. It combines an 8-core 1.6 GHz processor with 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. A fingerprint reader adds biometric security for enterprise deployments.

Android 7.1 limits app compatibility today

The tablet ships with Android 7.1, which no longer receives security updates and prevents installation of many current applications from the Play Store. Internal storage is fixed at 16 GB, though a microSDXC slot accepts cards up to 256 GB for additional media and documents. The TFT display resolves at 1280 x 800 with 16 million colours.

Simple setup but outdated OS blocks modern apps

Initial configuration follows standard Android prompts and the microSD card mounts automatically when inserted. The main friction point is Android 7.1 itself: banking, MDM and logistics apps often refuse to run or crash on this version. Buyers who need current app support or long-term security patches should consider a newer rugged model.
