Samsung PM983 3.84 TB SSD

The Samsung PM983 is a 3.84 TB solid state disk in a 2.5 inch form factor. It connects through a PCI Express Gen3 x4 interface and is built for read intensive enterprise workloads. The drive is supplied new as an OEM unit without a custom bundle.

Capacity and headroom

With 3.84 TB of space the drive holds large datasets, virtual machine images and media libraries. Sequential reads reach 3,000 MB/s and writes 1,900 MB/s while random reads hit 540K IOPS and writes 50K IOPS. The 1.3 DWPD rating defines the sustained write endurance ceiling for daily operation.

Build quality and connectors

The 2.5 inch chassis fits standard drive bays and backplanes using the PCI Express Gen3 x4 edge connector. No separate power cable is required beyond the slot interface. The OEM packaging omits retail accessories so mounting hardware must be sourced separately.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.84 TB PM983 fit and function in a server that uses the 2.5 inch PCI Express Gen3 x4 form factor?

Yes. The drive uses the 2.5 inch form factor and a PCI Express Gen3 x4 interface, matching that slot exactly.

Which indicators confirm the PM983 is performing at its rated 3,000 MB/s sequential read and 1,900 MB/s sequential write speeds?

Run a sequential benchmark tool; values near 3,000 MB/s read and 1,900 MB/s write show the drive is operating as specified.

Does the OEM package include a mounting bracket or power cable, or must they be purchased separately?

The OEM package contains only the SSD itself; any 2.5 inch bracket, caddy or power cable must be sourced separately.
