High-Speed USB-C Flash Drive

The SanDisk Extreme PRO SDCZ890 is a 512GB USB flash drive built for professionals and enthusiasts who move large files between devices. It uses a USB-C connector to deliver SSD-like transfer rates up to 1000MB/s read and 900MB/s write. The rugged metal casing includes a keyring hole for portability.

Sustained Transfer Performance

Rated speeds of 1000MB/s read and 900MB/s write are achieved over the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, far exceeding standard USB 2.0 drives by a factor of 200. Actual throughput under continuous load depends on the host controller, file sizes and thermal conditions of the drive enclosure.

Host Compatibility Check

Verify that your computer, tablet or phone offers a USB-C port supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2 or faster to reach the advertised rates. Older USB-C ports limited to USB 2.0 will restrict transfers to much lower speeds. Ensure your operating system recognises exFAT or the chosen file system for files larger than 4GB.

Questions about this item

How warm does the metal casing get when the drive sustains 1000MB/s read speeds all day?

The premium metal body acts as a heat spreader; under continuous 1000MB/s reads it warms to the touch but stays within safe operating limits without throttling.

What port must my laptop or phone have to use the USB-C connector on this SDCZ890?

You need a USB-C port that supports USB 3.2 Gen 2; older USB-C ports limited to USB 2.0 will work but only at 2.0 speeds.

Will this 512GB drive work reliably alongside my older USB 2.0 flash drives on the same hub?

Yes, it is backward compatible with USB 2.0 hubs and ports, though transfers will drop to 2.0 rates while the older drives are active.
