Radiant Black Diffusion Filter

The Schneider M82 Radiant Black 1/2 Filter is a screw-in diffusion filter built for cinematographers and portrait photographers. It softens highlights and smooths skin tones while preserving deep blacks. The filter creates an analog film aesthetic suited to narrative and commercial work. It is endorsed by Director of Photography Matthias Bolliger.

1/2 Strength Contrast Control

The 1/2 density provides moderate bloom around highlights and gentle contrast reduction for close-up and wide-angle portraiture. It prevents unwanted haze and maintains image clarity across the frame. Stronger 1 and 2 densities exist for heavier diffusion, while 1/8 and 1/4 offer subtler effect. This strength balances character with retained detail.

M82 Thread Compatibility

The filter mounts directly on lenses with an 82 mm front thread. Screw-in versions are also offered in M77 and M95 threads for other lens diameters. Larger 4x5.65" and 6.6x6.6" square formats are available for matte-box workflows. Lenses lacking an 82 mm thread cannot use this specific unit without a step-up ring.
