Seagate BarraCuda 7200.7 40GB SATA drive

This 3.5-inch desktop hard drive provides 40GB of storage on a SATA 1.5Gb/s interface. It spins at 7200 RPM with a 2MB cache for legacy systems. The refurbished unit suits owners of older PCs needing a direct replacement drive. It is not for builders who want more storage or modern performance.

Bare drive packaging with one-year coverage

The drive arrives as a bare unit without cables, brackets or software utilities. Packaging may vary between retail and OEM styles. A one-year period is included by the manufacturer. Buyers who need installation accessories must source them separately.

Simple SATA installation for older desktops

Connect the drive to a SATA 1.5Gb/s port and secure it in a 3.5-inch bay using standard screws. No special drivers are required for supported operating systems. The main issue arises when the motherboard lacks a compatible SATA connector.

Questions about this item

Will the 2 MB cache need any maintenance or replacement over time?

The 2 MB cache is built into the drive electronics and does not require separate maintenance or replacement.

What limit appears first when the 7200 RPM platters run continuously?

Sustained operation is typically limited by the SATA 1.5 Gb/s interface bandwidth before the mechanical speed becomes a bottleneck.

How much heat and noise does the 3.5 inch drive produce during all-day use?

The 3.5 inch form factor dissipates heat through the chassis and generates typical mechanical noise from the 7200 RPM spindle motor.
