Seagate BarraCuda 2TB SATA Desktop Drive

This 3.5-inch internal hard drive provides 2TB of storage for daily computing tasks. It suits desktop builders who want a straightforward capacity upgrade using a standard SATA 6.0Gb/s connection.

Simple SATA Installation in 3.5-Inch Bays

The bare drive mounts in any standard 3.5-inch bay using four screws and connects with a SATA data cable plus a SATA power lead. No special drivers or brackets are required. The unit is sold erased to DoD 5220.22 M standard and tested good, but it arrives unformatted and unpartitioned so the operating system must initialise it before use. Cosmetic markings or label variations may be present and up to 25 bad sectors are considered acceptable for this used stock.

2TB Capacity with 7200 RPM and 64MB Cache

The 7200 RPM spindle and 64MB cache deliver responsive throughput for operating systems, applications and media libraries. The 2TB volume comfortably holds large game collections, photo archives and video projects. Mechanical latency and sustained transfer limits mean the drive will not match solid-state speeds for random access workloads or boot-critical tasks.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the ST2000DM006 is working correctly after installation?

Initialise the 2TB drive in your OS disk utility, run a full SMART self-test, and confirm the firmware reports 7200 RPM, 64MB cache and a SATA 6.0Gb/s link speed.

What does the bare-drive package contain and what must I supply?

The box holds only the 3.5" ST2000DM006 unit itself; you must provide a SATA data cable, a SATA power connector and a 3.5" drive bay or mounting hardware.

Which capacity from the BarraCuda line should I choose for a general-purpose desktop upgrade?

The 2TB ST2000DM006 balances cost and space for daily computing; larger models in the same series go up to 8TB if you need more room.
