High-performance SAS drive for enterprise workloads

The Seagate Cheetah 15K.7 is a new 300 GB 3.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 15000 RPM with a SAS 6Gb/s interface and 16 MB cache. It uses SLC NAND flash memory technology. The 9FL066-031 model is designed for high-transaction environments where consistent throughput and low access latency are critical. Retail or OEM packaging may vary.

Ideal for database servers

This drive suits administrators who need 15K RPM spindle speed and a 6 Gb/s SAS connection for primary storage arrays. Buyers requiring capacities beyond 300 GB or interfaces other than SAS should evaluate different drive classes. Systems without a SAS controller or backplane cannot use this device.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the 15000RPM Cheetah run during continuous operation?

The 15K.7 spins at 15000RPM, so it generates more heat and acoustic noise than slower desktop drives; plan for active airflow in the 3.5-inch bay and a power supply that can deliver the SAS 6Gb/s interface current.

What host connector and controller does the 6Gb/s SAS drive require?

The drive uses a standard SAS 6Gb/s interface, so the system must provide a compatible SAS backplane or HBA with a 3.5-inch drive bay and the appropriate power connector.
