Seagate Cheetah 15K.7 300GB SAS HDD

This is a lot of ten new 3.5-inch internal hard drives from Seagate. Each unit delivers 300GB of storage on a 6Gb/s SAS interface with a 16MB buffer. The drives spin at 15000RPM for high-throughput enterprise workloads.

Suits servers and arrays needing 15K SAS spindles

Buyers who need larger capacities per drive or solid-state latency should look elsewhere. The 300GB limit per unit restricts total volume in dense chassis. Workstations without a SAS host adapter cannot use these drives.

Deciding spec: 15000RPM rotational speed

This speed defines the drive's random I/O profile and sustained transfer rate. It also determines the power draw and acoustic output that the chassis must handle. Verify the controller supports 6Gb/s SAS before purchase.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the 15000RPM SAS drive is operating correctly after installation?

Check the controller BIOS or RAID utility for the 6Gb/s link speed and confirm the ST3300657SS reports 300GB with zero SMART reallocated sectors.

What comes with the 10-drive lot and what must I source separately?

The lot includes ten ST3300657SS 3.5" SAS drives; SAS cables, a compatible HBA or RAID card, and mounting screws are not included.

Which capacity and speed version should I choose for a 15K SAS array?

All ten drives are the 300GB 15000RPM 6Gb/s model with 16MB cache, so there is no alternative capacity or speed to select.
