600 GB 15000 RPM SAS enterprise drive

The Seagate Cheetah 15k.7 is a 3.5-inch internal hard drive built for mission-critical tier-1 storage. It spins at 15000 RPM and connects through a SAS interface with a 16 MB buffer. The 600 GB capacity targets high-performance enterprise workloads where low latency and sustained throughput are required.

Hot-swap capability and PowerTrim efficiency

The drive supports hot-swappable installation so it can be replaced without powering down the host system. Seagate PowerTrim technology dynamically optimises power consumption across every activity level, reducing watts per gigabyte while maintaining enterprise reliability. Retail or OEM packaging may vary but the drive itself is new and RoHS compliant.

Suited for primary enterprise arrays.

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that demand 15000 RPM SAS performance and hot-swap serviceability. It is not intended for cold archival storage, consumer desktop workloads or systems that lack a SAS host adapter and backplane. Buyers needing larger capacities or lower power draw for nearline tiers should evaluate other form factors.

Questions about this item

Does the 15,000 RPM spindle require scheduled bearing replacement?

Enterprise drives are rated for continuous operation without a user-serviceable bearing schedule; the sealed HDA is not designed for field maintenance.

What is the first limit reached during sustained writes to the 16 MB buffer?

The 16 MB cache fills quickly under sequential SAS traffic, so the 15,000 RPM media transfer rate becomes the bottleneck.

How much heat does the 3.5-inch Cheetah 15k.7 produce under all-day load?

PowerTrim technology dynamically optimises consumption at every activity level, reducing watts per GB compared with previous enterprise drives.
