Cheetah T10 146GB 10K SAS drive

The Seagate Cheetah T10 ST3146755SS is a new 3.5-inch internal hard drive with a 146GB capacity. It spins at 10000RPM and connects through a SAS 3Gb/s interface with a 16MB buffer. This enterprise-class drive is built for desktop servers and workstations that require high-speed rotational storage.

Suited for SAS-only bays and controllers

This drive fits systems equipped with a SAS backplane or host bus adapter that supports the 3Gb/s link speed. It is not suitable for builds that lack a SAS connection or that rely solely on a different interface type. Buyers needing larger capacities or solid-state performance should consider other storage classes.

3Gb/s SAS interface decides fit

The single specification that determines compatibility is the SAS 3Gb/s interface; the drive requires a matching SAS port and controller to function. Without that specific connection the unit cannot be used in the target system.

Questions about this item

Do I need a SAS controller or HBA to connect the 3Gb/s SAS interface on the ST3146755SS?

Yes, the drive requires a host bus adapter or RAID controller with a native SAS port that supports 3Gb/s signalling.

Can the 10000RPM Cheetah T10 share a SAS backplane with slower drives?

The 3Gb/s SAS link negotiates down to the speed of each attached device on the same backplane.

How can I verify the 16MB cache and 146GB capacity are recognised after installation?

Check the drive model ST3146755SS in your RAID BIOS or OS disk utility; it should report 146GB capacity and 16MB buffer.
