  • 5-inch form factor fits dense server chassis

Enterprise SAS drive for 2.5-inch bays

The Seagate Constellation.2 provides 500GB of storage in a 2.5-inch form factor with a SAS 6Gb/s interface. It spins at 7200RPM and includes a 64MB cache to support consistent throughput in server and storage arrays. Designed for systems that require enterprise-class reliability in a small drive bay.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The 2.5-inch mechanical design generates typical heat and acoustic output for a 7200RPM enterprise drive under sustained workloads. Power draw follows standard SAS specifications during active and idle operation. Buyers who need lower heat or silent solid-state storage should consider alternative drive technologies.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5-inch SAS drive in a 3.5-inch bay and what step is often missed?

Mount the 2.5-inch drive in a 3.5-inch adapter bracket, connect the SAS data and power cables to the 6Gb/s backplane, and ensure the controller detects the 500GB volume before formatting.

What maintenance will the 7200RPM SAS drive need over time?

Monitor SMART reallocated-sector counts and bearing noise; replace the drive if the 64MB cache shows rising error rates or the 6Gb/s link drops to lower speeds.
